TendonScan® Post Tension Tendon Inspection Service

TendonScan® is a comprehensive post-tension tendon inspection service that utilizes the latest in Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technologies to locate section loss (loss of metallic area) and corrosion in external tendons of segmental structures.

We have two separate patented portable units that utilize Radio Frequency (RF) and advancement in Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) to detect corrosion and locate section loss within a post-tension tendon.

A proprietary tendon condition assessment report is generated identifying the locations and sizes of any discontinuities.

TendonScan® is (Infraspect) Infraspect’s term that encompasses their robotic inspection service for post-tension tendons. TendonScan® is comprised of a lightweight, battery-operated service unit that couples onto the tendon and travels along a tendon performing an MRI-like inspection of the material within the tendon. The inspector stands at the control station located on a wheeled cart and moves along with the sensor. The results are transmitted wirelessly to the inspection station.

The sensor uses wireless connectivity to transmit the MRI-like data to the control station where the inspector performs real-time assessments of the discontinuities within the tendon.

TendonScan® units utilize proprietary patented leading-edge NDT technology and come in a 240 and 360 degree units. For tendons that lay on the ground or are on the exterior of a wall, the 240-degree unit is utilized. When the entire tendon is exposed the 360 degree unit can be utilized. MFL is the industry’s newest NDT technology that allows our inspectors to perform MRI-like inspections of external bridge tendons.

The magnetic flux unit locates section loss and corrosion and is currently the only inspection method that provides the amount of quantitative data to properly assess our aging infrastructure.

The most advanced NDE of external tendons within a segmental bridge structure can show where tendons need to be immediately repaired or replaced.

The average inspection team is composed of two personnel, the equipment is lightweight, self-propelled, and operates on battery power with wireless connectivity to the control station.

The inspections are real-time with minimum back-office processing. TendonScan® provides the quantitative data the department of transportation requires to properly allocate their asset to conduct repairs in order of importance.
